جهل سقراطی؛ معنای حقیقی یا مجازی؟

چکیده

در رساله‌های آغازینِ افلاطون، موسوم به رساله‌های سقراطی، سقراط بارها می‌گوید: «نمی‌دانم». آیا او درحالی‌که چنین می‌گوید، می‌داند یا نمی‌داند؟ هر یک از دو پاسخِ این پرسش، از روزگار باستان، در میانِ معاشرانِ سقراط، تا امروز، در میانِ خوانندگانِ نوشته‌های افلاطون، طرفدارانی داشته ‌است. بسیاری از سقراط‌پژوهانِ معاصر به گزینه یا قرائت دوم، مبنی بر صداقت سقراط در اقرار به نادانی، گرایش یافته‌اند؛ ولی اینان در اثبات نظر خود تفسیرهای گوناگونی دارند، و به‌رغم دیدگاه مشترک، گاه به نتیجه‌های گوناگونی می‌رسند. این مقاله نیز با استناد به نوشته‌های افلاطون، و گاه برخی دیگر از نوشته‌های دوران باستان، شش دلیل در تأیید قرائت دوم به دست می‌دهد. اما این قرائت، پنج مسئله یا تعارض در پی دارد، که برای برخی از آنها با اتکا به شواهد متنی، و برای برخی دیگر با تفسیرِ متن، می‌توان راه حلی یافت.
