The emergence of "metaphilosophy" as a distinct field of research is primarily a response to the crisis that philosophy faces today in justifying its authenticity and practical relevance. However, this very crisis may also offer significant advantages for philosophical thinking—most notably, by providing a framework for a systematic and problem-oriented re-reading of the history of philosophy. This paper seeks to examine key elements of Heidegger’s thought through the lens of contemporary metaphilosophical models, aiming to clarify the potential contributions of his work to ongoing philosophical debates. To this end, we begin by reviewing four dominant paradigms identified by metaphilosophers as fundamental modes of philosophizing: Platonism, philosophy as the logic of science, philosophy as transcendental inquiry, and philosophy as worldview. We then explore Heidegger’s relation to each of these approaches. Subsequently, in light of contemporary discussions about the methodological status of philosophy, we reconsider Heidegger’s account of what philosophy is, with a particular focus on the problem of method. Finally, building on the preceding analyses, we reflect on the historical bifurcation of analytic and continental philosophy, arguing that Heidegger played a central role in shaping this divide. We conclude by framing this reassessment as a prelude to the question of whether a reconciliation or synthesis between these traditions is possible in the present age.
