As the founder of Illumination school of philosophy, Suhrawardi
introduces new insights to Islamic philosophy. Among them is his
division of concepts into the primary and secondary. Criticizing
Peripatetic philosophers, he considers the concept of existence as a
secondary concept. Frege`s division of function into the first level
and second level and his view about the concept of “existence”,
resembles Suhrawardi`s in important respects they differ though
in the role attributing to it in language and its metaphysical
consequences. While it makes thinking possible for Suhrawardi, it
divides primary concepts into referring and non referring groups
